7:30 a.m. Walk - Bird Walk 1.5 Hours
Join Volunteer Naturalist Ann Keenan for a walk around the Visitor Center vicinity looking for the common birds of our desert. All birding levels welcome. Meet in the Visitor Center parking lot. Please bring binoculars. Rain cancels.
7:30 a.m. Walk - The Borrego Hawk Watch Experience 1.5 Hours
Discover the hawk watch phenomenon with Volunteer Naturalist and hawk watcher Joe Hopkins. Meet at the Visitor Center flagpole to caravan out to the site, observe hawk watchers on duty, and we hope, see migrating raptors. Bring binoculars, water, snacks, and appropriate clothing.
8 a.m. Bike Ride- Borrego Badlands Mountain Bike Ride 7 Hours
This two-wheel adventure will be a strenuous 15-mile mountain bike ride in and through one of ABDSP’s remote areas. Starting from Arroyo Salado, the group will make stops at 17 Palms and 5 Palms (palm groves in the middle of the desert!) and see some ruggedly beautiful desert scenery along the way. $20 / $10 ABF Members. 8 a.m.- Work Day- Invasive Plant Response Team Workday 4 Hours
Join ABDSP and ABF as we work to give the native plants in Anza-Borrego a chance to thrive! We will work in groups to remove invasive plants in Sentenac Cienega. Be prepared to walk through rough and uneven terrain- heavy pants and long-sleeve shirts are recommended. 8:30 a.m. Hike –Ghost Mountain 2.5 Hours
Experience the Marshal South story on this trek up Ghost Mountain with Volunteer Naturalist Dan Leidecker. The hike is steep but relatively short (1 mile up, 1 mile down) and offers a glimpse into the family’s life on this remote mountaintop. Bring water, a snack, hat and sturdy footwear. Meet Dan at the Blair Valley entrance (turn off Highway S2 near mile marker 23, across from the Butterfield Stage sign).
9:00 a.m. Walk – Spring Plant Walk 2 Hours
Enjoy and learn about the ingenuity of our SURVIVAL EXPERTS--OUR AMAZING DESERT PLANTS! Meet knowledgeable members of the Park's Botany Society for an easy morning stroll somewhere in the Park. Leaders and destinations will vary. Bring water, sun protection, and sturdy shoes. Note: Check with the ABF Store or the State Park Visitor Center for additional dates. No reservation needed; meet at State Park Store, (587 Palm Canyon Drive, next to ABF office).

10:00 a.m. Talk -Solve The Desert Water Puzzle: Hands On 10 minutes repeating for 2 Hrs
Do you know what it means to “take plenty of water”? Meet Park Interpretive Specialist, Regina Reiter, in front of the Visitor Center to solve The Water Puzzle and learn how to calculate your water needs while you’re visiting Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. You’ll also get some tips on how to locate the Park’s Desert Bighorn Sheep by discovering their watering habits! Stop by for ten minutes to develop your “water aptitude”.
12:00 p.m. Walk - Garden Walk 45 Minutes
Join Certified Interpretive Guide Abby Barker as she takes you on a stroll through the Visitor Center Garden to discover what is in bloom.
1:30 p.m. Talk – The Pollen Path: Seasonal Movements of Native Americans 1 Hour
Discover the amazing secrets of the Native Americans who lived in the area that is now Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. Join Volunteer Naturalist Steve Russell in an exciting journey through the past as we take a look at how early residents migrated to take advantage of local food supplies.
2:00 p.m. Junior Rangers 45 Minutes
Special program for children ages 7-12. Discover secrets of the desert environment. Sign up at the Visitor Center as space is limited.
3:30 p.m. Petals, Leaves, and Pollen 1 Hour
Join Park Interpretive Specialist Regina Reiter in the Visitor Center Garden for an imaginative and satisfying exploration of flowers and how to put names to all those confusing blooms. For flower lovers and budding botanists. No nomenclature expertise is needed!
7:30 p.m. Campfire - Don’t Die in the Desert! 1 Hour
Ranger Callan will give you tips for being prepared when you visit the desert, supplies to carry, how to get yourself unstuck, and more. Meet at the Borrego Palm Canyon Campground Campfire Center.
