ABDSP Interpretive Activities

All activities meet in front of the ABDSP Visitor Center unless otherwise specified.

8:00 a.m. Hike – Eagle Rock             7 Hours
Join Volunteer Naturalists Ann Keenan and Celeste Doughty for an 8-mile hike along the Pacific Crest Trail starting at Warner Springs. We plan to lunch at Eagle Rock. The decision to make it a one-way through-hike (Barrel Springs to Warner Springs, requires a vehicle shuttle) or an out-and-back from Barrel Springs will be made on the morning of the hike by the group. Meet at the Visitor Center upper parking lot. This hike is limited to 12 participants; sign up at the Visitor Center.

9:15 a.m. Talk  - Fossil Clues to Pleistocene Climate       3 Hours
Join the Paleontology Society for their monthly lecture series presented by Dr. Lyn Murray.
Open to the public. Meet in the Discovery Lab at the Visitor Center.

10:00 a.m. Talk   -Solve The Desert Water Puzzle: Hands On     2 Hours
Do you know what it means to “take plenty of water”?  Meet Park Interpretive Specialist, Regina Reiter, in front of the Visitor Center to solve The Water Puzzle and learn how to calculate your water needs while you’re visiting Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. You’ll also get some tips on how to locate the Park’s Desert Bighorn Sheep by discovering their watering habits! Stop by for ten minutes to develop your “water aptitude”.

3:00 p.m. Talk  - Geology for Creative Thinkers       1 Hour
Explore the basic rock types found in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park and the geologic processes that shaped them in a fun, hands-on way that makes Geology come alive! Join Park Interpretive Specialist Regina Reiter at the Park Visitor Center for a rockin’ good time with rocks!  No previous geology vocabulary necessary.
