Friday, March 16, 2018 - 11:00am

Friday March 16th, 11 a.m.

Join the Colorado Desert Archaeology Society for a public program presentation by retired Professor of History George Harwood Phillips. Phillips will discuss conflicts between early American settlers and Native Americans leading to the pan-Indian Garra Revolt of 1851. This coordinated uprising sent shockwaves throughout the state. Martial law was declared in San Diego while in Los Coyotes Canyon a band of Cahuillas engaged troops sent out to put down the Revolt. A State Park monument at the Santa Catarina parking area in the Canyon commemorates this uprising.
