THIS TRIP IS NOW FULL. PLEASE CALL 760-767-4063 TO BE ADDED TO THE WAIT-LIST.

This trip will offer an opportunity to visit two of the more dramatic places in the Colorado Desert: the San Andreas Fault and the outstanding petroglyph site at Corn Springs.

At our first stop, we will walk about ¼ mile to a place where you can reach out and touch the San Andreas Fault. We’ll continue driving up Painted Canyon in The Mecca Hills to cross another fault or two and view the rich colors represented by the pre-Cambrian rock exposure in this canyon. Then we head east on Interstate 10 to the Corn Springs turnoff and drive up the graded dirt road to the Corn Springs Campground. After lunch, we will walk about a half mile to view the magnificent petroglyphs, which literally cover the rock walls in some locations.

This will be an all day trip involving at least 220 miles of driving. Bring lunch and plenty of water. Please arrive with a full tank of gas. The two dirt roads we will drive are graded but rough. 4WD or high-clearance vehicles are recommended.
