Salton Sea Magical Mystery Tour

Enjoy a tour of the wondrous and sometimes mysterious sites surrounding the Salton Sea Basin. Led by geographer and urban planner Ron Poitras and architect Richard Orne, this caravan driving tour will include a sundry assortment of architectural curiosities, fringe settlements, and geological oddities.

Sites we will visit include the Salton Sea Yacht Club, Obsidian Butte, Sonny Bono Wildlife Sanctuary (restroom stop), the famous mudpots, Niland architecture, Salvation Mountain and Slab City, Bombay Beach, Salton Sea State Recreation Area, Bat Cave Butte and North Shore.

The all-day excursion includes ~200 miles of driving, ending at approximately 4:00 pm. Please come prepared to carpool with a full tank of gas, lunch, snacks, water, sturdy footwear, hat, sun block, and your sense of humor. Meet in the back parking lot of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park Visitor Center.
