Visit the historic Indian Agency Buildings at the heart of the Torres-Martinez Indian community. Over the last century they have been the center of tribal activities, serving as a schoolhouse, church, administration and residence. Social and religious gatherings mark the history of the buildings.

Along with being a Riverside County landmark, the Torres-Martinez Indian Agency Buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. They were built in 1907 and are considered the oldest standing Indian Agency buildings in California.
You'll also get an in-depth tour of the fascinating wetlands restoration project at the Salton Sea, where opportunities to view birds and other wildlife abound!
Torres-Martinez Desert Cahuilla Indians are the largest private landowner of property in and around the Salton Sea. In 2003, in order to protect the land for future generations, Torres-Martinez began a shallow wetland pilot project using grant funding. The pilot project is 85 acres in size and consists of 7 water quality cells and 4 habitat ponds.
Participants will meet at the ABDSP Visitor Center's back parking lot and carpool to the Tribal Headquarters of the Torres-Martinez Desert Cahuilla Indian Reservation. Please bring a snack and/or lunch, water and sunscreen and wear sturdy walking shoes. Feel free to bring a camera and binoculars for wildlife viewing at the wetlands.
