Back by popular demand, this two-day workshop is a rare opportunity to learn the basics of three types of basketry-willow, juncus, and pine needle-directly from the gifted weavers of Baja California. Today this dynamic art form continues to evolve as tribes, museums, collectors and the public take a renewed interest in native California's remarkable basketry traditions. This workshop is a rare opportunity to learn the basics of at least two types of coil basketry, juncus and pine needle, directly from the gifted weavers of Baja California. Each student will have the opportunity and materials to make at least one basket. The workshop will also include information about baskets in their cultural context, the preparation of plant materials, and the use of natural colors and textures for design elements.
