The Vallecito Valley is a remarkable location that has attracted human occupation for thousands of years. Because of the presence of the cienega in its midst, prehistoric peoples regularly visited the valley to hunt and collect plant foods. Vallecito Valley was also the location of one of the handful of full-time desert ranching operations, the Campbell Ranch. Come on this tour of the valley and learn about its incredible history and the Park's work to designate part of the property as a Cultural Preserve. Also learn about the recently-formed "Friends of Vallecito" grassroots group and its plans to help develop a Visitor Center at the existing ranch house to help protect the valley's resources.
