While most visitors come to the desert to see the annual wildflowers in the spring, it is the perennial plants that have the most fascinating stories to tell. Imagine what it would be like to be anchored in one spot, with no shade or water, with temperatures over 100 degrees almost every day, for at least four months every year!
On this easy half day trip, we will visit a wide variety of desert shrubs, trees, and cacti, and listen to the stories they have to tell about survival in one of the most difficult environments on earth. There will be two or three stops to look at plants of several different habitats. Each stop will involve an easy walk of no more than half a mile. Bring water, sturdy hiking shoes or boots, sun protection and a snack. Four-wheel-drive not required.
