Part 3 of a 3-Part Series
Leader: Paul Johnson
$45 / $35 for ABF members
This field tour will focus on the mysterious granular stone shapes which occur in many of the fine-grained sedimentary deposits of Anza-Borrego and surrounding areas. Although there are a wide variety of descriptions of how these structures form, there is no doubt that they are fascinating and often bizarre.
We will visit two or three outstanding deposits, and examine a wide variety of concretion types. This trip will require high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles, and will involve a total driving distance of approximately 75 miles. There will be 3 or 4 short hikes of 1/4 mile each and they will involve a bit of scrambling over steep and rocky slopes. This WILL NOT be a collecting trip.
