Hike of the Month: Mountain Palm Springs

Ranger Steve Bier will lead this hike among the fan palms in Mountain Palm Springs. This is a strenuous hike that will make a loop to visit all the major palm groves, with a side trip to Torote Bowl to see the elephant trees there. Total hiking distance approximately 6 miles. 2-wheel drive vehicles OK.

Follow S2 approximately 29 miles south of Scissor's Crossing and exit at Mile 47.1. Meet at the Mountain Palm Springs primitive camp.

Be sure to have a full tank of gas and bring lunch, water, hat, sturdy hiking shoes/boots and sunscreen.
