04/13/2013 - 10:00am
04/13/2013 - 3:00pm
Location:
Anza-Borrego Desert State Park

Leader: Diana Lindsay
$15 / $10 for ABF members

Hike Level: Moderate - two mile trail hike (one mile uphill and one mile down) with 630-ft. elevation gain/loss

Meet: ABF State Park Store (587 Palm Canyon Drive #110). We will carpool into Coyote Canyon to Desert Gardens where we will park and begin our hike.

Hike up Alcoholic Pass trail and enjoy sweeping views of the Santa Rosas to the northeast and the San Ysidros to the southwest. The one-mile trek to the register (where we can sign that we successfully made it) includes 630 feet in elevation gain from the trailhead.

The Alcoholic Trail was supposedly named because it was a short cut from Clark Valley to Borrego Valley for early cattlemen who wanted to “wet their whistles.” Having conquered the pass, and in the finest of tradition, we will head down to wet our whistles with some fine brew back at the cars! Learn more about the history of the trail here.

Bring: water, sun protection, a trail lunch, and hiking poles if you have them.  Also bring an easy chair to relax and enjoy with a cold beer after the hike, provided by Ballast Point Brewing Company and Stone Brewing Co.

This event is for adults 21 or more years old. Be responsible when drinking. Camping in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is encouraged and there are several hotels in Borrego Springs. At the very least, please visit some of our Borrego Partner restaurants for a good meal before heading home.
