On this, the second in our series of monthly hikes, we will attempt to "hike the loop" and visit most of the palm groves in the Mountain Palm Springs area. Ranger Steve Bier will lead us and share his knowledge of the area along the way.
Be prepared for a strenuous hike of approximately 5 miles, with numerous ups and downs along a rocky trail. Depending on the group, we may hike an additional one mile roundtrip to Torote Bowl for a look at the elephant trees there.
Wear sturdy hiking shoes or boots, and bring plenty of water, a lunch, hat and sunscreen, and a camera and binoculars (optional).
We will meet Ranger Steve at 8:00 am at the trailhead at Mountain Palm Springs campground. Participants from Borrego Springs may want to meet earlier for carpooling. Call 760-767-4063 for details.
