How insects have colored the desertWildflowers don’t just attract thousands of nature lovers to the desert every year. Over the course of geologic time insects and plants have been in an evolutionary dance. Plants trying to attract insects for pollination…and insects trying to find a bite to eat. This lecture will discuss why flowers look different, how insects see flowers, how flowers can be deceitful, and how insects can be thieves. Everyone loves flowers. Now learn the other half of the pollination story. |

Dr. Michael Wall's interest in entomology started with plants. While working on both a B.S. and M.S. in botany at Auburn University, he became interested in the ecological relationships between plants and insects. This ultimately resulted in the discovery of an insect species that was new to science and Michael's induction into the world of insect taxonomy. After completing his Ph.D. in entomology at University of Connecticut and a postdoctoral fellowship at the Australian Museum, Michael joined San Diego Natural History Museum as Curator of Entomology.
