The Borrego Valley Hawkwatch counts more spring Swainson's Hawks than any site in North America. It is possible to see 500 hawks in one day! What are they doing here? Many of them arrive here from thousands of miles away! Join the hawk-count leaders for another exciting season of observation and exploration of this remarkable phenomenon. No charge for Hawkwatch events.
Every evening (March 20 - 28) during the FESTIVAL OF HAWKS, counters will gather at the Evening Hawkwatch site to observe the hawks as they arrive in Borrego to roost for the night. A leader will be on hand to answer questions.
Counters will also keep watch starting at 8:00 every morning (March 21 - 29) as the birds lift off in great swirling "kettles" to continue their northward migration. Morning Count Site is on DiGiorgio Road, 2.3 miles north of Palm Canyon Drive.
On Saturday, March 28, Hawkwatch organizer Hal Cohen will give a lecture about the Hawkwatch. Borrego Springs Library Community Room, 2 - 3:30 pm.
