This trip is for ABFI members only. The price includes airport transfers, most meals, and ground transportation in Mongolia, but does not include airfare.

Join ABDSP Superintendent Mark Jorgensen on a two-week tour of the Gobi Desert of Mongolia!
Stay in a ger (yurt) camp in Hustai National Park, home to Przewalskii horses, Red Deer (much like the elk of North America) and other wildlife. Look for Argali sheep at our Sister Park, the Ikh Nart Nature Reserve, and learn about the wildlife research being conducted there. Explore grasslands, sand dunes, and steppes habitat.

Tour Highlights:

  • Two days in capital city Ulaanbaatar for museums, shopping, and a folk concert (hotel accommodations).Mongolian gers under a full moon
  • Two nights and days in Hustai National Park for wildlife viewing, including Przewalskii Horses (ger camp accommodations).
  • Two nights at Arburd Sands Ger Camp, exploring grasslands and sand dunes, looking for wildlife and visiting a local nomadic family.
  • Three days and nights in and around Ikh Nart Nature Reserve, "sister park" to Anza-Borrego Desert State Park (Ger Camp).
  • Visit a local village on the way to Gun Galuut Nature Reserve, ideal for birdwatching in steppes habitat (Ger Camp accommodations).
  • Two days and nights at Jalman Meadows (Ger camp), including a float trip down the Tuul River on rafts.

Most accommodations are in rustic ger (yurt) camps, with very simple facilities. All meals outside of Ulaanbaatar are included.Participants are responsible for making their own travel arrangements to and from Ulaanbaatar.

Please note: this trip is not for the luxury traveler or the faint-hearted! Food and facilities are very basic, in locations that are quite remote. Participants should be in excellent health, with a sense of adventure and desire to experience a new culture.
