The Borrego Valley Hawkwatch counts more spring Swainson's Hawks than any site in North America. It is possible to see 500 hawks in one day! What are they doing here? Many of them arrive here from thousands of miles away! Join the hawk-count leaders for another exciting season of observation and exploration of this remarkable phenomenon. No charge for Hawkwatch events.
Join Hawkwatch experts at 8:00 every morning (March 21 - 29) during the FESTIVAL OF HAWKS for gathering and tabulating data on migrating hawks. Time it right, and you may be fortunate enough to see hundreds of the birds lift off in great swirling "kettles" to continue their northward migration. Morning Count Site is on DiGiorgio Road, 2.3 miles north of Palm Canyon Drive. A leader will be on hand to answer questions.
Counters will also gather every evening (March 20 - 28) at the Evening Hawkwatch site to observe the hawks as they arrive in the Borrego Valley to roost for the night. The Evening Hawkwatch Site is on Borrego Valley Road, 1.5 miles north of Palm Canyon Drive.
On Saturday, March 28, Hawkwatch organizer Hal Cohen will give a lecture about the Hawkwatch. Borrego Springs Library Community Room, 2 - 3:30 pm.
