Join Jon Rebman, San Diego Natural History Museum’s Curator of Botany, for this field class in the beautiful Pinyon Mountains of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.

Learn about the wide variety of plants in this area as you explore multiple locations along Pinyon Mountain Road. This part of the park is dominated by Pinyon/Juniper Woodland and harbors many species that prefer desert transitional vegetation. A plant checklist for the area will be provided.

Level:  Moderate – class will include up to 2-miles of off-trail hiking with some elevation gain/loss. Please wear appropriate shoes and clothing for comfortable off-trail walking.

Meet: Back parking lot of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park Visitor Center.  The class will caravan to the location with possible stops for “show and tell" along the route.

High clearance required and 4WD recommended

Bring: Lunch/snacks, hat, ample water, and a notebook if desired; please wear sturdy hiking shoes.
