California State Parks’ botanist Larry Hendrickson will lead three informational trainings this month for volunteers interested in helping with the removal of non-native Sahara Mustard.
This field training will teach you how to distinguish Sahara Mustard from other similar-looking native plants, the best methods for pulling, and how to dispose of the plants properly. No registration required.
Meet on Henderson Canyon Road at the demonstration plot on north side of the road. Wear study hiking boots, sunscreen, and bring water and snacks. We will be pulling mustard after the training; please bring gloves and a Hula Hoe / Stirrup Hoe, if possible. Rain cancels.
Volunteers must attend at least one of the scheduled training sessions. Trained volunteers will also be allowed to work elsewhere within the State Park with proper identification.
Sahara Mustard Training Presentation: Wednesday, November 17, 7 pm
Other field training dates: Friday, November 19, 9 am - 12 pm
