Join astronomer Dennis Mammana for a leisurely hike into the ruggedly beautiful Borrego Badlands and, along the way, hear some wonderful stories about our nearest celestial neighbor. The hike will culminate with a beautiful full moon rise and view through a telescope.
Families and children are welcome and encouraged to attend, but please be sure all children are able to hike or be carried the distance required to ensure the enjoyment of other participants.
What to Bring: Bring a dinner easy to eat on the trail, any beverage you may want, water, a flashlight or headlamp, appropriate clothing for hiking and sitting at night, comfortable shoes, and anything else you need to be comfortable in the desert after the sun goes down. If you have a 4WD vehicle, please bring it.
Where to Meet: Meet just off the pavement at San Felipe Wash (Texas Dip) on Borrego Springs Road. We will caravan in to Hills of the Moon Wash and start our hike there. If you have a 4WD vehicle, please bring it.
Hiking Level: This will be a mostly flat hike of 3-4 miles total (in and out, with a break in between for moongazing) in a sandy wash.
