Learn the history of the 148-mile railroad linking San Diego and the Imperial Valley and the dramatic backstory of why, when and how the Goat Canyon Trestle was built.

The famed 185’ high, 633’ long wooden bridge connects tunnels through the steep, arid landscape of Carrizo Gorge. Reena Deutsch, author of the book San Diego & Arizona Railway, the Impossible Railroad, will read excerpts from the railroad’s records, engineering annotations, and extraordinary pictures of the tunnel and landmark trestle under construction during the fierce summer heat.
