ABDSP Interpretive Activities

All activities meet in front of the ABDSP Visitor Center unless otherwise specified.

9:00 a.m. Talk  - Paleontology Lecture                                                                  3 Hours
Join the Paleontology Society for their monthly lecture series. Open to the public. Meet in the Discovery Lab at the Visitor Center.
9:00 a.m. Hike - Hornblende Canyon                                                                              6 Hours
Join volunteer naturalist Paul Larson on a moderate hike in Hornblende Canyon. We'll check out wildflowers along the way as we enjoy one of the most beautiful but overlooked canyons in the Park. Bring hiking stick(s), ample water, hiking boots and lunch.  Meet at entrance to Blair Valley at 9am.  Hike is about 5 miles.
10:00 a.m. Walk   - Jojoba: A Model of Desert Survival                                          30 Minutes
The Jojoba plant is highly drought-resistant. Join Volunteer Naturalist Tony DeLorenzo at the Visitor Center to learn how the Jojoba plant has adapted to life in the desert and how to identify these adaptations in other desert plants. We’ll also discuss ancient and modern uses for this plant.
