ABDSP Interpretive Activities

All activities meet in front of the ABDSP Visitor Center unless otherwise specified.

8:30 a.m. Hike – Harper Cabin/Pinyon Wash                        6 Hours
Join Volunteer Naturalists Ted Caragozian and Paul Larson for a moderately strenuous hike to Harper Flat, the cabin, and the Pinyon drop-off. The terrain is generally even, but the hike is about 7 miles. Wear sturdy footwear; bring water and a light lunch. Four-wheel drive required, but we’ll car-pool up the jeep road. Meet at the junction of State Highway 78 and Pinyon Wash (about 4 miles east of Tamarisk Grove).
10:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. Talk   - Solve The Desert Water Puzzle: Hands On            10 Minutes
Do you know what it means to “take plenty of water”?  Meet Park Interpretive Specialist, Regina Reiter, in front of the Visitor Center to solve The Water Puzzle and learn how to calculate your water needs while you’re visiting Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. You’ll also get some tips on how to locate the Park’s Desert Bighorn Sheep by discovering their watering habits! Stop by for ten minutes to develop your “water aptitude”.
2:00 p.m. –    Junior Rangers                                 45 Minutes
Special program for children ages 7-12.  Discover secrets of the desert environment.  Sign up at the Visitor Center as space is limited.
