9am-12pm, with a stop at Nickel Beer Company in Julian after the hike
Join Anza-Borrego Foundation and Volcan Mountain Foundation for a 6-mile round-trip hike in the higher elevations near Julian. Come enjoy the Volcan Mountain Hike. Hahachepang is the Native name of Volcan Mountain is the way to say, "where the waters come from” in Ipay, the local Native Peoples’ language. The hike will have an elevation gain of about 800 ft. We will pass Ironside Springs on our way to the top and stop to look at the local flora there.
Our destination will depend on our group. Hiking up to the conifer forest grove at 5,000 ft. will complete the hike unless we wish to hike the Sky Island Trail (which will add another 1.5 miles). This addition will give us a spectacular view of the San Diego mountains below and a chance to look through Volcan Mountain Foundation's newly built Sky Scope.
We will wrap up the day at Nickel Beer Company for a taste of Tom Nickel's special Anza-Borrego Brew, a Vanilla Oatmeal Stout. Each participant will get a voucher for two pints of any Nickel Beer.
For more details on the trail, call 760 518 3273.

Hikes & Hops and Bikes & Brews with Anza-Borrego Foundation
Good scenery, good beer, good company
Hikes & Hops and Bikes & Brews connect people with two things in common -- a love of Anza-Borrego and craft beer. Hikes & Hops is a social hike series in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, with Bikes & Brews being the same but with mountain and road bike rides, and a series of craft brewery happy hours throughout Southern California. Join us for a hike and a beer, a bike and a brew or let us come to you for a brewery event!
**This event includes the consumption of alcohol. Families with children are welcome if they can keep up with the group or be carried. ABF may request photo ID for any participant who looks 30 and under. Only those over the age of 21 will be allowed to participate in the “hops” portion of the event. Be responsible when drinking. Camping in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is encouraged and there are several hotels in Borrego Springs. At the very least, please visit one of our Borrego Partner restaurants for a good meal before heading home.
Join our MeetUp group for upcoming events.
