Leaders: Jim Roller & Gary Haldeman
$20 / $15 for ABF Members

This two-wheel adventure will be a strenuous 15-mile mountain bike ride in and through one of ABDSP’s remote areas. Starting from Arroyo Salado, the group will make stops at 17 Palms and 5 Palms (palm groves in the middle of the desert!) and see some ruggedly beautiful desert scenery along the way. This ride is not suitable for beginners.

We will begin at the park bathroom parking area at the Arroyo Salado campground and end up at the Buttes Pass Road (Slot Canyon / Hawk Canyon / Goat Trail ) exit onto Highway 78 The distance is just shy of 18 miles and is a strenuous and spectacularly beautiful journey through a number of different landscapes and geologies; among many other memorable sights we will stop at 17 Palms, 5 Palms and Una Palma.

The beginning 5 miles or so of the ride are mostly downhill. The next 9 miles or so involve some climbing, some downhills and a lot of flat terrain as we travel the Cut Across Road that divides Ocotillo Wells SVRA to the east and ABDSP to the west. The final 3 to 4 miles involve a hauntingly beautiful strenuous climb up through Buttes Canyon. We will rest (and probably snack) in Hawk Canyon as we prepare for our last climb out of yet another special place.

Meet: I will be contacting you to organize a shuttle, as this is a one-way ride.

Bring: YOU MUST WEAR A HELMET and have a suitable mountain bike for this strenuous ride. If you have a question on whether your bike is suitable, please give Ashley a call at 760-767-0446 ext 1003.

Hikes & Hops and Bikes & Brews with Anza-Borrego Foundation

Good scenery, good beer, good company
Hikes & Hops and Bikes & Brews connect people with two things in common -- a love of Anza-Borrego and craft beer. Hikes & Hops is a social hike series in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, with Bikes & Brews being the same but with mountain and road bike rides, and a series of craft brewery happy hours throughout Southern California. Join us for a hike and a beer, a bike and a brew or let us come to you for a brewery event!

**This event includes the consumption of alcohol. Families with children are welcome if they can keep up with the group or be carried. ABF may request photo ID for any participant who looks 30 and under. Only those over the age of 21 will be allowed to participate in the “hops” portion of the event. Be responsible when drinking. Camping in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is encouraged and there are several hotels in Borrego Springs. At the very least, please visit one of our Borrego Partner restaurants for a good meal before heading home.

Join our MeetUp group for upcoming events.
