Elephant Knees, Bill Dahl, 2015 2nd Place Landscapes

We will be headed out for a 3-4 mile excursion in the fairly sandy Mud Hills Wash to the Elephant Knees in the Split Mountain area. The Mud Hills are an other-worldly landscape of uniform golden-colored rolling hills. We'll wander our way through this magical landscape, taking in views of the Elephant Knees along the way, and eventually wind our way behind the Elephant Knees formation.

We will be looking at some very interesting geology, but keep in mind this is a social hike. We'll share what we know, but won't be experts on the area.

If possible, come equipped with a 4WD, high clearance vehicle. Carpooling will be necessary.

This trip is highly dependent on how fall and winter storms affect driving conditions through Fish Creek.

Bring: Plenty of water, snacks, a lunch, sun protection, sturdy shoes to walk through a sandy wash, a chair to lounge in at the end, and a smile for your fellow hikers!

Meet: At the start of Fish Creek Wash, just off the pavement. We will organize the carpool from there.

Please register in advance for this program so we can work out the carpool situation to fit everyone in 4WD vehicles.

Hikes & Hops and Bikes & Brews with Anza-Borrego Foundation

Good scenery, good beer, good company
Hikes & Hops and Bikes & Brews connect people with two things in common -- a love of Anza-Borrego and craft beer. Hikes & Hops is a social hike series in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, with Bikes & Brews being the same but with mountain and road bike rides, and a series of craft brewery happy hours throughout Southern California. Join us for a hike and a beer, a bike and a brew or let us come to you for a brewery event!

**This event includes the consumption of alcohol. Families with children are welcome if they can keep up with the group or be carried. ABF may request photo ID for any participant who looks 30 and under. Only those over the age of 21 will be allowed to participate in the “hops” portion of the event. Be responsible when drinking. Camping in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is encouraged and there are several hotels in Borrego Springs. At the very least, please visit one of our Borrego Partner restaurants for a good meal before heading home.

Join our MeetUp group for upcoming events.
