Fred Jee Awarded 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award

ABF and ABDSP champion, supporter, and retired Park Ranger Fred Jee will be honored this weekend for all of his hard work and dedication to Anza-Borrego Desert State Park and the town of Borrego Springs since being stationed here by California State Parks in 1975.

You can read an article and an interview about Fred’s time here and his award in the Borrego Sun’s current issue, available around town or right here in the Anza-Borrego Foundation office, but here at ABF we have a few reasons of our own that we think Fred deserves the award:

All Staff: Jellybeans and Fudge. Fred keeps Anza-Borrego Foundation fully stocked in treats, and most especially jellybeans and fudge, during the height and stress of the season. We always say that if you need jellybeans BEFORE 9:30 a.m., you’re having a rough day! Keeping our stress at a manageable level is a pretty big life achievement in our book!

Fred is special for his commitment to both ABDSP and the Borrego Springs community. He did this while working as a ranger, but his commitment didn't end with his retirement. He gives many hours of service to ABF as a hike leader, advocate and Century Circle member (along with LL of course). Plus, he keeps us happy with his fudge and jelly bean contributions! -Paige

Fred is such a giving and knowledgeable person. He is always willing—and eager!—to help those new to Anza-Borrego. Any question about the Park, Fred can give you an answer or point you in the right direction. He has led many field classes for ABF as a volunteer…what a wealth of knowledge! Fred gives his time and talents not just to support the Park but the entire town. Cheers to Fred! -Briana

Simple. Fred is always asking what he can do, how he can help, and not just for ABF or ABDSP, but for you personally. Fred is just a good hearted gentleman. -Chris

Any time there is something going on in town, from the Film Festival to Borrego Days, the Christmas show to the Sundowners, Fred is always there, with a smile and a pun waiting for all to see and hear. Any time we need info on an event happening in town, we just call Fred into the office while he’s walking out and about town, and he can fill us in. Seems like nothing happens in Borrego without the participation of Fred to help drive it along. Along with all his involvement in town happenings, he's always willing to help out ABF with anything we need. Thanks for keeping it punny, Fred! -Ashley

If you see Fred around town (which you no doubt will this weekend for Borrego Days!) give him a pat on the back and a heartfelt congrats- he deserves it!
