Visitor Center and State Park Store Library Expands

By Chris Rogowski, Interpretive Sales Manager

For this season, books on the Cahuilla and Kumeyaay have been expanded greatly!

Over my last 3 years as the Interpretive Sales Manager, I’ve been hearing the volunteers, visitors and Park staff mention that we need more books about Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. Before every season, I do an inventory to see which section is in the need of a little TLC. Last year, I brought in more than six new titles on the night sky and 7.5 minute maps made by the USGS. The year before? We beefed up our materials on birds and wildflowers.

This month saw me finally getting around to increasing the selection on the Native Peoples of the Park and surrounding areas. Previously, the choices at the Visitor Center and State Park Store could be easily carried in one hand, but with a ton of help from Robin Connors (Associate State Archeologist here at the Colorado Desert District), I was able to find more than a dozen new titles and bring in a few old books that we haven’t carried in years. I feel that when visitors come to the ABDSP Visitor Center they believe that it’s the number one place to find information about the Park (Geology, Flowers/Plants, Archeology, Hikes, Birds, History and Native Peoples), anything about the past, present and future!

If you haven't headed to the Visitor Center or State Park Store in a while, stop by and take a look at our expanded selection of materials on Native Peoples of this region.
