ABDSP Interpretive Activities

ABDSP Interpretive Activities are Free and Open to the Public. All programs meet in front of the ABDSP Visitor Center unless otherwise stated.

7:30 a.m. Walk – Bird Walk 1.5 Hours
Join Volunteer Naturalist Ann Keenan for a walk around the Visitor Center vicinity looking for the common birds of our desert. All birding levels welcome. Meet in the Visitor Center parking lot. Please bring binoculars. Rain cancels.

8:00 a.m. Walk —Wildlife Survey Volunteer Training: Introduction to Tracking II  4 Hours
This is the second part of the Wildlife Survey Volunteer Training. We will go into the field looking  for tracks and scat and other sign of animals.

10:00 a.m. Auto Tour – Ranger Encounters with Ranger Don
Meet at Mt. Palm Springs Camp Ground in the south end of the park to tour the mud caves of Arroyo Tapiado. 4 X 4 vehicles recommended.

11:00 a.m. Garden Walk - Petals, Leaves, and Pollen 1 Hour
Knowing all the desert flowers can be frustrating and overwhelming. Join Park Interpretive Specialist, Regina Reiter to discover an imaginative and satisfying way to name the flowers, plus a key sense for confidently engaging with Nature.

2:00 p.m. Junior Rangers 45 Min
Special program for children ages 7-12. Discover secrets of the desert environment. Sign up at the Visitor Center as space is limited.

7:30 p.m. Campfire Program – Getting the “Bad” Out of the Badlands 1 Hour
Join Ranger Mike at the Borrego Palm Canyon Campfire Center for an evening campfire program to explore the Badlands. Find out why the Badlands aren’t so bad.
