The Paleontology Society's first lecture of the season features speaker Dr. Lyndon K. Murray. The Colorado Desert of southeastern California was not always a seemingly barren wilderness. This was once a verdant landscape—an environment of rivers and streams, lakes, forest and savanna. Before that, it held an inland ocean. The key to understanding this prehistoric world is paleontology, the study of the fossilized remains of ancient life. Anza-Borrego has an exceptional fossil record, which preserves leaf impressions, shells, bones and teeth, and in some places, even animal tracks. Dr. Murray will introduce us to this long vanished past.
