Petrified Woods from the Colorado River delta: What do we know?
December 9, 10:00 a.m. - Open to the public, ABDSP Visitor Center
Speaker: Tom Spinks
The petrified wood found in the Colorado River delta region has been studied in some detail by both state park and academic scientists. These studies give answers to questions frequently asked about the fossil woods regarding their origin, age, composition and taxonomy. This presentation discusses the major finding of the studies and incorporates advances by the recent USGS study of how the lower Colorado River initially developed. This information is used to develop and guide future research projects on the petrified woods found in the ABDSP.
