Anza Borrego 101: De-mystifying Desert Hiking
Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is the largest state park in California, with over 640,000 acres. The Park features stunning washes, palm groves, cacti and dramatic vistas. Over five hundred miles of dirt roads, free backcountry camping, and a thousand square miles of open hiking provide visitors with an unparalleled opportunity to experience the wonders of the California desert.
Although over 640,000 acres of habitat are open to hiking throughout Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, many hikers remain hesitant to thoroughly explore this seemingly intimidating landscape for a variety of reasons. This presentation explores those barriers while reviewing different skills and strategies that will help the desert-curious hiker to begin penetrating the wonders of the Anza-Borrego Desert.
