ABDSP Interpretive Activities

ABDSP Interpretive Activities are Free and Open to the Public. All programs meet in front of the ABDSP Visitor Center unless otherwise stated.

9:00 a.m. Hike – Elephant Knees Hike                           5 Hours
Join Volunteer Naturalists Ted Caragozian and Paul Larson for a strenuous hike up to a remarkable outcrop of marine fossils about 4 million years old and a great view of the Fish Creek Badlands. Meet at the junction of Fish Creek Wash and Split Mountain Road at the end of the payment. We’ll carpool from there in 4WD vehicles.

1:00 p.m. Walk  - Garden Walk                                      45 Minutes
Join a Visitor Center Interpreter who will take you on a stroll through the Visitor Center Garden to discover some of our special desert plants.

2:00 p.m. Walk  – Junior Rangers                        1 Hour
Special California State Parks program for children only, ages 7-12. Discover secrets of the desert environment. Sign up at the Visitor Center as space is limited. Bring a sunhat and water. Groups of 5 or more, call in advance 760-767-0334 and check for availability.

7:00 p.m. Campfire  -- Eclipse!                                                                1 Hour
Be prepared for Wednesday morning’s Lunar Eclipse, and learn more about Earth’s nearest neighbor, the Moon—why are there moon phases and eclipses?  Enjoy the night sky and campfire with Park Interpreter Sally Theriault at the Borrego Palm Canyon Campfire Center.
