Guidelines and Application Form
The Anza-Borrego Institute, the educational and research arm of the Anza-Borrego Foundation, is pleased to announce a competitive grants program to assist university students conducting entomological research. Up to $1500 will be awarded to assist students with travel, supplies, equipment, and other costs associated with field work. Entomological studies based in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park® and the surrounding ecological region are invited. Projects addressing studies in life histories, predator-prey relationships, insect-plant interactions (but not insects as pests), and conservation issues are suggested areas for study. Systematic studies or other projects that require large-scale collection are not a focus of this grant program. However, it is understood that some State-permitted collecting may be necessary.

Preference will be given to worthy proposals lacking other sources of support. Projects should be mainly focused on the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park® and the surrounding region. Although this project may be incorporated into a more comprehensive study such as a thesis, the project supported by this grant must be a stand-alone study with a final written report limited to this study due on or before January 30, 2009.

The Anza-Borrego Institute and this awards program must be recognized in any published or unpublished work. Grantee is required to obtain all necessary state and federal permits and/or authorization prior to beginning field work.

Original application plus 5 stapled copies should be received by the Anza- Borrego Institute, P.O. Box 2001, 587 Palm Canyon Drive, Suite 220, Borrego Springs, CA, 92004 no later than 5 pm on November 16, 2007. Awards will be made by January 4, 2008.
