Saving Land

A primary aspect of Anza-Borrego Foundation’s (ABF) mission is to acquire private lands within and bordering Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. When the Park was formed in the early 1930s, it was checker boarded by thousands of acres of inholdings – one estimate as high as 60,000 acres, 10% of the current Park!

ABF has acquired more than 50,000 acres of inholdings and other properties for addition to the Park. Acquisitions have been in critical areas such as Palm Canyon, Coyote Canyon and the Borrego Badlands, an area rich with paleontology. Looking to the future, ABF will actively pursue acquisition of the remaining inholdings to make our Park whole.

We would like to thank RSR Law Group LLP, who provided substantial in-kind support to our acquisition and biological mitigation efforts.
