Join a group of like-minded hiking enthusiasts for your favorite challenge of February.  Hikers extraordinaire, Sicco Rood and Mark Remy, will guide us on a hike up Willow Peak (AKA Lizard Peak) to challenge the body and delight the adventure seeker in you.  \nThis hike is slightly shorter than our other adventures, at approximately 4 or 5 miles (depending on the route we take) with a 1,500-foot elevation gain. We’ll hike cross country with a large, rough section covered with rocks. This hike is easier for folks who are worried about slippery hiking, as the vegetation is thicker and there are fewer loose rocky slopes. Though sun exposed, we’ll start higher, and the route contains more greenery, and less dark rock or exposed sand, keeping it relatively cool.  \nSicco never disappoints in sharing with us unconventional routes that you’ve likely never done before. You’ll probably use your whole body on this hike and have a fantastic story to share! We highly recommend trekking poles.  \nNote – this isn’t an interpretive hike but we’ll discuss desert and hiking safety.  \n \nDisclaimer:  It’s important to note that we may not reach our final intended destination due to constraints on time, the onset of darkness, and concerns for safety. Hike leaders reserve the right to turn around or change the route based on these considerations.  \nParticipants must be in good physical condition and able to travel long distances in the desert over rough, uneven, and steep terrain. Please assess yourself honestly! We ask that anyone with medical conditions, such as bad knees, asthma, heart conditions, back problems, or medications that can’t be administered during the hike, please refrain from participating. Leaders have the right to turn away any participant that comes unprepared for the adventure. \nLimited to 20 hikers.  \nWhat to bring: \n\nWater (about 3-4 liters recommended) \nLunch and snacks for a long day \n\n\nClothing layers to remove – it will be cold in the morning and warm up throughout the day \nSun protection: a good hat, sunscreen, neck gator or bandana \nHiking shoes or boots \nTrekking poles \n\n \nNote on bad weather:  If the forecast calls for heavy rain, thunderstorms, or high winds, the hike will be cancelled and possibly rescheduled.  \nSpace is limited! Please register in advance.  Register Here \nCancellation Policy: Notification must be received at least 7 days before the first day of the event if you need to cancel and wish to receive a refund. For cancellations made after the 7-day deadline, we cannot issue refunds for any reason. We understand that unforeseen or emergency circumstances may arise, but our nonprofit organization operates on a limited budget and, while inconvenient, this policy enables us to sustain our programs even with last-minute cancellations. If ABF cancels a program, we will issue a full refund or credit. \n
