DESCRIPTION:Join Us for a spooky day after Halloween hike through the Ocotillo Flat area of Coyote Canyon! \nVenture into the desert after dark for a spooky—but family-friendly—night hike through the mysterious Ocotillo Flat area of Coyote Canyon! The desert transforms after sunset, and on this special evening just after Halloween, we’ll explore the sights, sounds, and stories that make this landscape come alive under the stars. Halloween costumes encouraged! \n \nWhat to Expect\n\nWe’ll begin our adventure at Ocotillo Flats, surrounded by the silhouettes of ocotillo and creosote under the rising moon.\nWe’ll hike roughly 3 miles roundtrip across gentle (though uneven) terrain.\nAlong the trail, you might see nocturnal creatures that thrive after dark, such as scorpions, bats, and owls.\nThis easy-paced night hike is led by an ABF staff member and wilderness first responder, ensuring a safe, fun, and slightly spooky experience for all ages.\n\n \nWho Should Attend\n\nFamilies and friends looking for a unique way to celebrate the Halloween season outdoors. Halloween costumed encouraged! \nNature lovers eager to experience the desert at night and learn about its nocturnal life. \nAnyone who enjoys a lighthearted mix of nature, stories, and a touch of Halloween magic under a starlit sky. \nHikers comfortable with a relatively easy 3-mile walk on sandy, uneven terrain. \n\n \nBring your sense of adventure—and maybe your costumes and glow sticks—for a night of desert mystery and moonlit fun! \n \nPlease bring: \n\nClosed-toe hiking shoes \nLayers to keep warm as the night cools down \nAt least 2 liters of water per person \nElectrolytes and snacks \nA headlamp (required, preferably with a red light) \n\n \nDate: Saturday, November 1, 2025 \nTime: 5:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. (end time is approximate) \nLocation: Meet at the ABF store at 587 Palm Canyon Dr. #110, Borrego Springs, CA 92004 (in The Mall next to Calico’s).
