Fat Tire Bikes & Brews in Inspiration Wash
December 10 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm PST
$20/$15 for ABF Members Leaders: Jim Roller & Gary Haldeman
Due to deep soft sand, this ride is for participants that have fat tire bikes only. Fat tire bikes are those with tires 3.8 inches or wider.
**If you do not have a fat tire bike but would like to join us, we encourage you to talk to Captain Dave at Bike Borrego!**Inspiration Wash is a very unique area at the Western edge of the Borrego Badlands. This 12 mile, Fat-Tires-Only ride starts at the parking area near the weather station east of Rockhouse Canyon Road. We will ride east on S-22 for approximately 1 1/2 miles to Inspiration Wash. A three mile ride up Inspiration Wash takes us on a beautiful four wheel drive road through a narrow canyon to Inspiration Point for a 360-degree view of the area. From the Point we will drop down a steep road through more narrow canyons to an area just outside of ABDSP. Here we will be able to contrast the various types of parkland use by a variety of off road vehicles. As we begin to climb back toward the north we will pass through areas with diverse plant and animal tracks along the sand-blown trail. Good conditioning and a fat tire bike should get you through the steady climb, finally reaching the crest and the last downhill section back to the cars. We rate this ride as strenuous due to the steady climbs and sandy conditions. Bring plenty of water, snacks and repair gear. Riders are REQUIRED to adhere to the following: You must be wearing a helmet at all times You must have at least one spare tube, and all the tools necessary to fix a flat Your bike should be a mountain bike with a minimum of 26” x 2” tires (the fatter the better) You should bring plenty of snacks and more water than you think you will need *If you do not come prepared with the above listed items, we reserve the right to turn you away to preserve the safety and enjoyment of the rest of the group.
