Description: Join us for an Anza-Borrego: In Focus evening webinar presented by herpetologist extraordinaire, Jeff Nordland, to learn about our favorite ectotherms – the reptiles and amphibians of Anza-Borrego. Jeff will share where herps (from “herpetiles” which is lovingly used to refer to reptiles and amphibians) fit into food webs, all about their energy requirements and metabolism, and what likes to eat them. Jeff will also dive into the human impacts on herps in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, how climate change might affect their populations, and conservation efforts that are currently underway in southern California.
Don’t miss this opportunity to take a deep dive into understanding some of our oldest relatives and the incredible mechanisms they’ve maintained over the millennia.

About The Presenter: Like most herpetologists we know, Jeff Nordland has been fascinated by herps since he was first able to lift a rock around age 3. He spent his school years playing sports and exploring the creeks, hills and canyons near home outside Los Angeles. Jeff went on to college where he earned a BS in Plant Biology from UC Davis in 1995. After many years working in the horticulture business in Encinitas, CA, he earned an MBA from San Diego State University in 2004.
Jeff is married and resides in San Diego, California with his wife Lilian and two sons, Trevor and Brady. Jeff had been an officer of the CA Chapter of the North American Field Herping Association for many years. He led expeditions and collected herp records from all over southern California, especially San Diego County. He now has over 5,000 records in the HERP database (www.naherp.com). Currently a member of the Southwestern Field Herping Association, Jeff has a long history of volunteering as a field herpetologist with groups such as the Fallbrook Land Conservancy, the San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy, the City of San Diego, and the US Geological Survey. He maintains a diverse collection of small, friendly, California native herps which are used for numerous educational presentations each year.
