Description
Have you ever been interested in advancing scientific knowledge but you’re not technically a “scientist?” You’re in luck! There are many ways for the layperson to engage in the scientific process and assist major research. Join us for a webinar all about Participatory Science! This is the act of engaging the public in scientific research, including formulating research questions and collecting and analyzing data.
In this webinar, our speaker, Lisa Marun, will speak about the City Nature Challenge, a global effort where communities collaborate to share observations of nature. Lisa will discuss the logistics, demographics, science, and geographical perspectives of how to carry out successful participatory science projects. She’ll discuss the role of participatory science for researchers, the public observer, and the conservation of nature. Finally, Lisa will highlight one important tool used – iNaturalist – an online social network of people sharing biodiversity information to help each other learn about nature.
And if all of this intrigues you, you have the opportunity to get involved with the science happening in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park! Anza-Borrego Foundation and the Park are hosting an event on April 26th and 27th in collaboration with the City Nature Challenge where you can directly observe nature and contribute to protecting this incredible resource. Read more about it here.
