Hike Leader: Camille Houze grew up in the French Countryside of Picardie (northern part of France). Her natural bond with the outdoors comes from being raised surrounded by beautiful forest landscapes. She often helped her grandma on the farm, both with the animals and with the vegetable gardens as well as fruit trees. Her parents, rally drivers at the time, passed on to her their taste for adventure. They shared lots of escapades like hiking, kayaking, skiing, camping, fishing and traveling.

She moved from her parents’ house at the age of 16 to attend a special school that offered a Film program. She pursued this field in College and obtained a Master of Sound Engineering at the International School of Paris (“EICAR”). In 2017, she moved from France to San Diego for work opportunities. She is now a Union Member of the Local 122 of San Diego where she is striving for her Sound Engineering career.

To balance her noisy work environment, she naturally fell in love with the peaceful desert. She is fond of the open space landscape and endless possibilities of exploration. She loves how tough the plants and animals are in order to thrive in the harsh environment and also loves to observe animal behaviors, with coyotes being her favorite. She loves the heat as well, especially stargazing on warm summer nights. She has explored extensively by herself in the Mojave, Colorado and Great Basin deserts of California, and Anza Borrego State Park is definitely her favorite.
