Anza-Borrego Desert State Park BioBlitz
Would you like to contribute to crucial science about Anza-Borrego Desert State Park and have a chance to meet Park scientists? Join Anza-Borrego Foundation, Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, Steele/Burnand Anza-Borrego Desert Research Center, and our community partners for our second annual BioBlitz!
The BioBlitz is a collaborative effort by scientists and the community to survey and document as many living organisms as possible within a designated area and time frame. Each day begins at the Steele/Burnand Anza-Borrego Desert Research Center, where you’ll have the chance to learn about our community partners before joining Park scientists on guided hikes* to catalog the Park’s species. Using the free iNaturalist app, you’ll record your discoveries with expert guidance in species identification. Together, we’ll deepen our understanding of the Park’s incredible biodiversity.

- Be a Scientist for a Day (or Three!) – Step into the shoes of a researcher as you explore Anza-Borrego Desert State Park with expert scientists. This is a rare chance to contribute to real conservation efforts while uncovering the incredible biodiversity of the park—no experience needed!
- Adventure with a Purpose – Whether you’re an avid hiker or prefer easy-access trails, there’s a field survey for you. Spend time outdoors, meet like-minded nature lovers, and create unforgettable memories—all while making a tangible impact on wildlife research.

Please Bring:
- A cell phone with iNaturalist downloaded.
- Sturdy and comfortable hiking shoes.
- Snacks (light refreshments provided; additional food available for purchase).
- Water bottles.
- Sun protection (hat, sunscreen, etc.).
- Layers for changing weather conditions.
Please note: Field surveys vary in difficulty. Some require more intensive hiking to remote areas, while others are more accessible with easier trails. There will also be options for participants with limited hiking capabilities.

Location:
We’ll meet each day at the Steele/Burnand Anza-Borrego Desert Research Center, located at 401 Tilting T Dr., Borrego Springs, CA 92004. From there, we’ll carpool/caravan to our field survey sites.
Camping options available upon request.
Cost: This event is free! Donations are appreciated but not required.
