Anza-Borrego Women’s Campout

Join approximately 20 like-minded women for an unforgettable weekend in one of California’s most stunning and expansive desert landscapes — Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. Leave behind the daily grind for starlit skies, wildflower-dotted canyons, and the warm camaraderie of a small, welcoming group. Whether you’re a seasoned camper or brand new to sleeping under the stars, this retreat is designed to meet you where you are and send you home feeling refreshed, empowered, and more connected to the natural world.
What to Expect:
- Guided hikes, wildlife and plant identification, and desert exploration led by knowledgeable ABF volunteers
- Hands-on instruction in camping skills, including tent setup, camp organization, camp cooking techniques, and Leave No Trace practices
- Desert hiking skills, including how to stay safe in extreme environments, 10 essentials to take on a hike, desert navigation, trail safety, and case studies
- Opportunities for rest, reflection, digital detox, and meaningful connection with fellow participants
- Increased confidence, self-reliance, and appreciation for Anza-Borrego’s unique ecosystem and conservation efforts

What’s Included:
- Shared group campsite in Borrego Palm Canyon Campground with picnic tables, a shaded area, and an outhouse at the campsite (flush toilets and showers are a short walk away)
- Some tents, sleeping pads, and sleeping bags available for those who do not have them

Host: Dr. Pam Kersey is a certified California Naturalist. She has been teaching outdoor classes for more than a decade. She retired as a Math and Science Dean after also enjoying a career as a nurse and professor. She currently volunteers for Anza Borrego Foundation, Joshua Tree National Park Association (JTNPA), Mojave Desert Land Trust and Big Morongo Canyon Preserve. She is on the Preventative Search and Rescue team for Joshua Tree National Park and serves as secretary of the board for JTNPA. In her spare time, Pam loves to go hiking and camping.
