From Spectator to Scientist: Making Science Accessible to All (Webinar)

Are you interested in advancing scientific knowledge but you’re not technically a “scientist”? You’re in luck! There are countless ways to contribute to the scientific process and support major research. Join the California Naturalist and Anza-Borrego: In Focus series for “From Spectator to Scientist: Making Science Accessible to All”, a deep dive into Participatory Science (also known as Citizen Science)!

In this engaging webinar, Lisa Marun will explore how to involve the public in scientific research, from formulating research questions to collecting and analyzing data. She’ll cover the logistics, demographics, scientific methods, and geographical aspects essential to executing successful participatory science projects. Lisa will also discuss the vital roles that participatory science plays for researchers, community members, and nature conservation efforts.

Additionally, Lisa will introduce the City Nature Challenge, a global initiative where communities collaborate to document observations of nature, and highlight the powerful tool iNaturalist — an online platform that connects people to share biodiversity information and deepen their understanding of the natural world. The presentation will conclude with a Q&A session.
