Intermediate Hike: Domelands & Wind Caves Loop
Join us on a magical hike to the domelands and wind caves in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. This 8-mile hike will first follow a jeep trail before it transcends to a series of canyons. We’ll get a first glimpse of the wind caves on top of the mountain and will then take a trail over the ridge of a mud hill. We’ll pass slick rocks, sand, and small sand caves before we finally make it to the wind caves. After some time exploring, we’ll continue the loop back to the trailhead, encountering huge blocks of oyster shell reef fossils along the way.
Please bring sturdy hiking boots, hiking poles (if desired), three liters of water, layers, snacks, and your ID (we may pass a border patrol checkpoint on the way to the trailhead).

Trip Leader: Todd Linke is a resident of San Diego and just finished his 25th year in education, 23 of them with the Grossmont Union High School District. Todd grew up in Ohio and has been exploring, hiking and camping since he was a child. His earliest outdoor memories include hiking in the caves in Hocking Hills, sailing on Lake Atwood, swimming in Lake Erie, and camping at the seaside at Myrtle Beach. Todd fell in love with the desert several years ago and makes the two-hour drive to the park every chance he gets. He has visited the park over 100 times and has hiked and driven many of its well-known and more obscure trails and roads, but as always discovering more. Todd brings his love for science and his passion for the desert to any excursion in the park.
