Intermediate Hike – Sunset Trail/Big Laguna Trail Loop

Join us to celebrate National Get Outdoors Day for a summer hike in the mountains as we escape the desert heat! This intermediate 6.9-mile loop with 725 ft elevation gain will follow the Sunset Trail and Big Laguna Trail in Cleveland National Forest. We’ll wind through a forest of California black oaks, Englemann’s oaks, Jeffrey and yellow pines and chaparral to the scenic Water-of-the-Woods pond, Laguna Meadows and Big Laguna Lake. We’ll also be rewarded with occasional views of the mountain ranges to the west!

  • Beat the heat with a refreshing mountain hike through shady forests and scenic lakes.

  • Hike with purpose alongside guide Todd Linke, whose love for nature brings the trail to life.

  • Connect with nature and community on a trail that’s both invigorating and inspiring.

  • Celebrate National Get Outdoors Day with a memorable adventure just for you.

Todd grew up in Ohio and has been exploring, hiking and camping since he was a child. His earliest outdoor memories include hiking in the caves in Hocking Hills, sailing on Lake Atwood, swimming in Lake Erie, and camping at the seaside at Myrtle Beach.  Todd fell in love with the desert several years ago and makes the 2-hour drive to the park every chance he gets. He has visited the park over 100 times and has hiked and driven many of its well-known and more obscure trails and roads, but as always discovering more.
