What to Expect

A moderate 4-mile roundtrip night hike on a dirt road (we will not enter the slot canyon)

685 feet of elevation gain with steady climbing & unique sandstone formations

Hike Leader: Matt McArdle has a B.S.in biology from UC San Diego and loves natural history, science, and exploring the outdoors. He first visited Anza-Borrego Desert State Park in 2009 and has since spent many weekends exploring the Park’s trails. In his professional life, he’s worked as a science writer, a science educator, and in marketing communications for various technology-focused companies, including medical devices, irrigation management, and laboratory equipment. Matt is certified as both a California Naturalist and Wilderness First Responder.
