Description: Join us for the content you didn’t know you needed, a fascinating webinar and discussion from expert sound recordist and quiet conservationist, Matt Mikkelsen. Matt is the director of the Quiet Wilderness Area division of Quiet Parks International (QPI), a nonprofit working to protect quiet in nature and spread awareness about the science of natural soundscapes.

QPI has teamed up with Anza-Borrego Foundation to study and protect the natural sounds of Anza-Borrego by designating the State Park a Quiet Conservation Area, where we are working to preserve quiet and spread awareness about its importance. Quiet in nature is essential for healthy interactions among wildlife and is also scientifically proven to improve human wellbeing. Quiet is essential for humans and the conservation areas we are all working to protect.

In this webinar, world traveler and audio engineer, Matt, will share about the science of sound, the global work of Quiet Parks International and the importance of protecting soundscapes, the negative effects of noise pollution, and what data has been collected to understand the sounds of nature in Anza-Borrego. You’ll also hear sound files from quiet areas all over the world.

The presentation will be followed by an interactive discussion with participants on this important topic. Feel free to come prepared with questions for the experts.

Check out the Quiet Parks International website for more information about their work: https://www.quietparks.org/
