Description:

Join us for a stroll in the State Park with our very own botanists full of all the plant and wildflower knowledge you could ever want! Member of the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park Botany Society, Don Rideout, will lead us on a leisurely walk within the State Park at a site of his choosing. We’ll visit different locations every Friday and Saturday throughout the month of March. Our botanists will share in-depth knowledge so that you may become familiar with many incredible plants found in Anza-Borrego. We’ll learn about plant adaptations to the desert environment, the importance of plants in the landscape, and conservation and management efforts to keep them healthy.

This is a beginners botany walk, not necessarily for experienced botanists (though all are welcome). It will be a short, slow-paced walk with many stops to look at and discuss plants. We’ll stroll along and talk about every interesting plant we see. Ask questions, discuss exciting or rare plants, and see some wildflowers! If you want to walk further, you’re encouraged to do so after the guided walk ends.

What to Bring:

  • Sturdy, close-toed shoes.
  • Clothing layers for the chilly air in the morning and warmer midday temperatures.
  • Hat
  • Sunscreen
  • At least 2 Liters of water.
  • Snacks and/or your lunch to eat when the tour concludes.
  • (optional) Hand lens for looking at plant details.
  • (optional) Camera.

Cancellation Policy:  Notification must be received at least 7 days before the first day of the event if you need to cancel and wish to receive a refund. For cancellations made after the 7-day deadline, we cannot issue refunds for any reason. We understand that unforeseen or emergency circumstances may arise, but our nonprofit organization operates on a limited budget and, while inconvenient, this policy enables us to sustain our programs even with last-minute cancellations. If ABF cancels a program, we will issue a full refund or credit.
