Description
Mammals are an important part of the rich ecology of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park – a recognized biodiversity hotpot. The Park is home to 60 different species of reptiles and amphibians, and 60 species of mammals. Despite their critical role in our environment, there has been no synthesis of their identification, distribution and natural history until now. The San Diego County Mammal Atlas is a collaboration of more than 45 biologists led by Mammalogist Scott Tremor of the San Diego County Natural History Museum.
Features:
- Comprehensive Coverage: Includes an overview of mammals as a class and the history of mammalogy in San Diego County. The Atlas covers the biology of all 122 species known to have occurred since 1769. Accounts of each species include identification, distribution, habitats and aspects of natural history such as diet, reproduction, space use, activity patterns, predators and behavior.
- Maps/Photographs: Brilliant color photographs reflect the work of many prominent local photographers. Maps cover localities of Museum specimens and observations of biologists.
- Resources: A list of fossil mammals from San Diego County helps put the current mammal fauna in its evolutionary context. Includes a list of mammals that are designated endangered, threatened or of special concern. Techniques for detecting and surveying species are discussed.
- Hardcover; 432 pages
